RackMini Privacy Policy
How RackMini handles your data — spoiler: it stays on your Mac.
Last updated: March 2026
Privacy by Design
RackMini is a native macOS application that runs entirely on your computer. It is designed from the ground up to keep your data local. No account required, no cloud sync, no telemetry. Your cluster data never leaves your machine.
Data Stored Locally
All data RackMini uses is stored on your Mac and never transmitted externally:
- Node profiles — hostnames, IP addresses, SSH ports, hardware details, rack positions, and custom notes for your Mac mini and Linux nodes.
- Metric history — CPU, memory, disk, and network readings collected from your nodes over SSH.
- Alert configurations — thresholds, cooldown settings, and notification preferences.
- Label templates — device labels, cable labels, and shelf labels you create.
- Tags and organization — custom tags, groups, and rack position assignments.
SSH Credentials & Passwords
RackMini takes credential security seriously:
- Passwords are stored in the macOS Keychain — the same encrypted store used by Safari, Mail, and other system apps.
- SSH key passphrases are never stored by RackMini. It uses your system SSH agent for key-based authentication.
- Credentials are never logged, cached to disk in plaintext, or transmitted to any external service.
Network Activity
RackMini only makes network connections you explicitly configure:
- SSH connections — RackMini connects to your nodes via SSH on your local network to collect metrics and test connectivity. These connections go directly from your Mac to your nodes.
- No cloud connections — RackMini does not connect to any cloud service, API, or remote server.
- No analytics — No usage data, crash reports, or statistics are sent anywhere.
- No telemetry — No background pings, update checks, or heartbeat connections.
What We Don't Collect
RackMini does not collect, transmit, or store any of the following:
- No personal information — no name, email, or account of any kind.
- No usage analytics — no tracking of which features you use or how often.
- No crash reports or diagnostics — nothing is sent when something goes wrong.
- No location data — no IP geolocation or device location tracking.
Third-Party Services
RackMini uses minimal system-level services:
- macOS Keychain — Apple's built-in credential manager for secure password storage. Governed by Apple's privacy policy.
- Mac App Store — Used only for app distribution and license verification. Governed by Apple's privacy policy.
Your Data, Your Control
You have full control over all data in RackMini:
- Delete any node, metric history, alert, or label at any time from within the app.
- Export labels as PDF or PNG — the only data that ever leaves the app is what you explicitly export or print.
- Uninstalling RackMini removes all app data. Keychain entries can be removed via Keychain Access.
